Dr. Ward holds his MA in US History from the University of Missouri (2015) and his PhD in US History from Louisiana State University (2021). He is the author of Garden of Ruins: Occupied Louisiana in the Civil War (LSU Press, 2024). In 2023, he was one of twenty fellows at the Summer Seminar in Military History, hosted by the World War II museum in New Orleans. His research and teaching interests include the US Civil War, Antebellum America, environmental history, US slavery, US women’s history, US popular culture, military history, and gender studies.
